Enough. Drivers in San Francisco, already hounded by official decree, deserve a break from City Hall’s ceaseless effort to squeeze more money in the name of public transit…
Agency director Ed Reiskin has it right when he says a reliable revenue stream is needed to improve the creaky, maintenance-starved Muni system. He wants a solid budget, not one that barely keeps the wheels turning. And, of course, this is a densely packed city with a transit-first policy that enshrines public transportation above private vehicles.
But these arguments don’t justify a parking jihad. Sunday meter operations are suggested because, well, it’s just another day of the week, no longer the traditional day of rest. This argument makes sense in a businesslike way, but it misses another point: Car owners should get a day off from an army of ticket-writing meter minders…
We agree. Enuf is ready to put a stop to the escalating anti-car activities by SFMTA. They are threatening our neighborhoods now, and they will threaten yours soon. Each year SFMTA claims they need more money to fix Muni and each year they expend their energy on everything else. Just say NO to SFMTA. No Parking meters of Sunday. No more parking meters in the neighborhoods. No more revenue streams for SFMTA.
