Mission Bay parking planning community meeting

I’d like to invite you to join the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) at our second Mission Bay parking planning community meeting. We will discuss the revised plans for parking management in the neighborhood and gather public input. As Mission Bay evolves, we need to ensure that everyone on the road—cars, buses, bicycles, and pedestrians—can travel safely and smoothly.

Saturday, June 16   3-3:30 p.m. – Open House
3:30-4:30 p.m. – Public Comments (sign up by 3:20 p.m.)

The SFMTA seeks public input on the following:

  1. Special event pricing to better manage parking demand during large events like Giants games and reduce congestion.
  2. Extended meter hours to open up evening parking, particularly during evening games. This is separate from the SFMTA’s citywide Sunday metering proposal.
  3. New meter installation schedule for meters approved in 2002, which will have SFpark demand-responsive pricing to ensure an optimum level of open parking spaces as Mission Bay grows.

Before this upcoming meeting, I will send you an updated Mission Bay parking management plan. During the open house section of the meeting, attendees can review plan details, talk directly with project planners, and submit written feedback. The public comment period follows.

Memorial Day Weekend In San Francisco: Your Guide To Can’t-Miss Events (PHOTOS)


Can’t get to events. SFMTA and Caltrans are outdoing themselves this weekend by closing down as many bridges and regular transit routes as they can, while inviting people to take the reduced public transit to somehow get to one of the most crowded spots in the bay to experience fireworks on the Golden Gate Bridge. They promise no parking, less than normal transit, and crowded bridges. Your best bet is to climb a hill in Marin or get on a boat. Otherwise prepare for a long walk home at 10 PM on Sunday or watch it on TV.

Sunday parking meter plan decried, defended

San Francisco’s transportation chief defended his plan to start charging at curbside meters on Sundays in the face of concerns raised by city supervisors and criticism  by local pastors.

As we know by now, “Ed Reiskin, top executive of the deficit-plagued San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, said Thursday that the plan to extend meter operations to seven days a week is driven both by the need to generate more revenue…”

For those of you who disagree with SFMTA on what our city needs, here is the list of those who support your side:

“Supervisor Scott Wiener said he understands the policy reasons but is still troubled by the prospect.”… Supervisors Malia Cohen and Carmen Chu who serve on the committee with Wiener also said they were uneasy with the prospect of Sunday meters operations.”… “Rev. Cecil Williams of Glide Church, the Rev. Amos Brown, president of the local NAACP chapter, and the Rev. Robert Lucas, who serves as president of the San Francisco Baptist Ministers Council… “Plenty of small business owners are upset…

“Officially, the only way supervisors can block the plan is if they reject the agency’s entire two-year budget proposal, which amounts to $821 million in the new fiscal year that starts July 1 and $845.5 million the year after that.

While the supervisors on the budget committee made no threats that they would try to do that, they did strongly suggest that Reiskin rethink the plan as the budget moves through the approval process.”

Supervisors will continue public debate on the meter proposal next month.
