The amphibious tour bus line known as Ride the Ducks has quacked its last quack in San Francisco.
The company that took thousands of customers on 90-minute land and water tours of the city’s northern waterfront in a fleet of seven amphibious vehicles said it has ceased operations.
In a statement, company owner Chris Herschend said shutting down after eight years was a “difficult decision based on our assessment of the long-term profitability of the business.”
“San Francisco is an iconic destination but an extremely challenging business environment,” Herschend said…
The tour-bus industry in San Francisco has been struggling to accommodate new rules that forbid tour drivers to act as narrators and require a second person to fill that role.
That requirement was triggered after a motorized cable car operated by Ride the Ducks’ parent company struck and killed a 68-year-old woman in front of City Hall in October…(more)
