District 11 candidates talk housing, clean streets — & all want sidewalk parking

A lot of complaints have been heard about the problems with double parking, sidewalk parking and drivers nasty habits and taking over space. Not much has been said about the takeover of the streets and parking by the other side. I shot this picture of a cyclists trying to insist of ticketing a US Postal truck for parking on the sidewalk on Market Street. Do we want the mail delivered or not? And who is deciding when and what is a legitimate exemption? People own cars and homes and have organized their lives around assumptions in how they preferred to live. It is refreshing to hear that some candidates for office are listening to their constituents.

No matter which District 11 supervisor candidate wins, they will push for residents to be able to park on the sidewalks — as long as a wheelchair can pass by.

Five of the six candidates running to represent the district in November want to maintain sidewalk parking — no matter that it is illegal and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Authority has been ticketing the practice regularly. That hurdle was disregarded at the forum on Sunday afternoon, co-hosted by local YIMBY group Southside Forward and neighborhood group We Are OMI and moderated by Mission Local’s managing editor, Joe Eskenazi.

Good to hear the candidates are listening to their constituents, or observant of how many of the residents of D-11 park their cars wherever they physically can.
